The Independent National Electoral Commission has asked stakeholders in Ekiti State to help raise awareness about the collection of Permanent Voter Cards. This is important as the 2026 governorship election approaches.
Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, made this request in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday. He urged all registered voters who have not yet collected their PVCs, including those who just registered, to go to their registration areas and wards to get their cards.
Omoseyindemi shared that the PVC collection exercise started on June 2 and will finish on June 11, 2026.
He also confirmed that the commission is committed to holding a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election on June 20, 2026.
He explained that PVC collection is happening at registration areas and wards across the state from June 2 to June 8. After this, it will continue at INEC local government offices from June 9 to June 11.
"The PVC is not just an ID; it is a way for citizens to take part in democracy and a vital tool for them to vote and shape their communities and the nation," he said.
The REC encouraged community leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to help spread the word and motivate eligible voters to take part in the exercise.
"INEC Ekiti State Office is committed to running credible, transparent, and inclusive elections. We call on all stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, and the public to assist in raising awareness and encouraging eligible voters to participate in this process," Omoseyindemi stated.
He added that just registering to vote is not enough. Collecting PVCs is a personal responsibility and an important step to take part in the electoral process.
"Every vote counts, and every eligible voter has a role in making our democracy stronger," he said.
The PVC collection is part of preparations for the Ekiti State governorship election set for June 20, 2026.
INEC has stressed the importance of collecting PVCs, reminding everyone that only voters with valid cards can take part in the election.
The commission has also stepped up efforts in voter education and engaging stakeholders to encourage more participation and ensure a smooth voting process.
