Comedian and content creator Ayo Ajewole, better known as Woli Agba, speaks with Temitope Adetunji about his career and how insecurity is affecting the creative industry.
Insecurity has hit me hard, both personally and in my work. It has affected my output and caused a lot of worry. Even my team has noticed changes in how I work. I am more careful now than before. The truth is that these issues weigh on my mind. There are days I get to the office and just don’t feel like making content because of what is happening around us.
I remember telling my team not long ago that I couldn’t shoot because I was disturbed by news of people being kidnapped and taken into the bush.
As someone who is supposed to bring laughter and joy to others, it is tough when my own heart feels heavy.
I often say this is a time when even those who usually make others happy need support.
We cannot ignore the insecurity situation. It is really worrying and has affected many in the creative field.
There are events I would have accepted before that I now turn down. Sometimes, I just say I am busy because I don't want to take risks. This isn't just my story. Many content creators and actors feel the same way. There are places people won't go to because they are scared for their safety.
The truth is that insecurity has brought in limits and risks that we never had to think about before.
