Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has shared that joining the Premier League club was an easy choice. This was true even with the tough situation he faced leaving Newcastle United.

The Sweden international joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day in September 2025. He made the move for a British-record fee of £125 million.

In an interview with BBC Sport’s The Football Interview on Friday, Isak said Liverpool’s reputation, goals, and their strong desire to sign him made the decision clear.

“Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear,” Isak said.

He added, “The club’s ambition and the club’s will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it.”

Isak's exit from Newcastle came after a tough time. He had been training away from the first team at his previous club, Real Sociedad. The striker mentioned that promises made to him at Newcastle were not kept.

His first season at Anfield was challenging due to injury. Isak played only 1,032 minutes in 22 matches before a leg break sidelined him from December to April. He managed to score three goals in the Premier League.

Even with the tough season, the 26-year-old said he never regretted joining Liverpool. “No, never. I would never think like that,” he replied when asked about any regrets regarding the move.

Isak feels that focusing on the future helped him cope with the injury setback. “The leg break was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know,” he said.

He added, “But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.”

The striker has started the new season on a positive note. He has already matched his previous season’s Premier League total of three goals after just four games.

Additionally, Isak represented Sweden at the World Cup during the summer.
