Jorja Smith Shares Wizkid's Role in ‘Alive’ Song

British singer Jorja Smith has shared that her song "Alive" was originally Wizkid's before she took it over. This collaboration with the Nigerian artist shows how their ideas came together.

In a recent chat posted by AlbumTalksHQ on X, Smith talked about how the song came to be. She said it is one of the oldest tracks on her new album.

"That’s actually the oldest song on the album because we did, that’s one of the first songs we started and Wiz had his verse and then going off the back of what he was saying it just, it was just reminding me of like driving down to meet someone," she explained.

She shared how the song's vibe relates to the early stages of a new relationship. Smith said, "Like yeah and I don’t know there’s like a driving force in the song, a pull and yeah it was making me think of like the initial meeting, first chatting to someone’s stages, that vibe."

Fresh Love and Paris

Smith described "Alive" as a song about finding fresh love. She also mentioned that the music video was filmed in Paris. "I really like this song, it’s amazing. It’s about kind of finding new fresh love. Also the music video was in Paris, so it’s like love in the air," she added.

When asked why Wizkid was the perfect person to feature on the track, Smith pointed to producer P2J's previous work. "So P2J had that song with Wiz already and then I’d heard it and then I was, yeah," she said.

Smith reflected on how Wizkid's existing verse helped shape the song. She noted it changed the early idea into a finished song that captures the excitement of new connections.

She explained that the song’s energy comes directly from Wizkid’s part, making it fit perfectly with the themes of fresh love in her album.

The track "Alive" combines Smith’s soulful style with Wizkid’s Afrobeats sound. Together, they express the thrill of new romance in a collaboration that started with Wizkid's idea and became one of the highlights of her latest album.
