Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has shared that he has joined the United States Army. He sees this as a personal dream come true and a way to honor his late father, who worked in the Nigeria Police Force.
Momodu made this announcement in an Instagram post on Friday. He talked about the tough physical and emotional challenges of his military training.
According to him, the journey really tested his strength. He went through months of hard training and isolation.
"From the beginning, I have always believed in earning achievements through hard work. This is why I keep pushing myself to my limits.
“This one was filled with tears, fear of failing, strength, long days, short nights, tiredness, rain, and hot sun,” he wrote.
He mentioned that he had moments of doubt but stayed focused on finishing the program.
"There were times I doubted myself and thought, ‘who sent me message sef’? But I kept my eyes on the end goal.
“We trained hard, broke down, and built ourselves back up. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier.
“Ten weeks without communication. Ten weeks of learning to be okay in tough situations.”
Momodu said he picked April 12, 2026, to honor his late father, who died 20 years ago. He wanted to continue his family’s tradition of service.
“On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a special way. Twenty years after he passed, I picked up where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and joined the United States Army,” he said.
The actor announced that he has officially graduated from Basic Combat Training. He now serves as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu in the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
He dedicated this achievement to God, his late father, and his family.
“I dedicate this achievement first to God Almighty for helping me pass my ASVAB on the first try and finish Basic Combat Training. Second, to my late father, whose legacy I proudly carry. And finally, to the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II, the Avyuele Clan, Agbede, Etsako West, Edo State,” he noted.
Momodu also thanked everyone who supported him during this journey. This included his social media manager and the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California.
“This chapter is done. The next one starts now,” he added.
