Kano Governor Praises Tinubu's Education Loan Fund

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised President Bola Tinubu for starting the Nigerian Education Loan Fund. He sees this initiative as a big step in helping more Nigerian students access higher education.

The governor shared his thoughts in a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. This statement was given to PUNCH Online on Sunday.

Yusuf spoke on Saturday during the 2nd and 3rd Combined Convocation Ceremony at Al-Istiqama University in Sumaila, Kano State. A total of 1,101 students graduated from different programs at the university.

Yusuf highlighted that the Federal Government’s support for education, especially through NELFUND, will help students and their parents pay for tertiary education. This will also lower financial challenges that might stop qualified young Nigerians from going to university.

"Let me take this chance to thank the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for its great support for education, especially with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

“This initiative gives students and parents better chances to finance education in Nigerian tertiary institutions. It is a big step towards increasing access to higher education," he said.

The governor encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills they gained to create jobs and make meaningful contributions to their communities, Kano State, and Nigeria. He also praised the management and staff of Al-Istiqama University for their efforts in improving higher education in Kano State.

Yusuf stated that investing in education is investing in the future of Kano State and Nigeria. He noted that a well-educated and skilled population is key to achieving long-term development, economic growth, and social progress.

He congratulated the graduates for finishing their studies successfully. He urged them to maintain discipline, integrity, and the values learned during their studies. They should use their education to make positive impacts in society.

The governor also encouraged them to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship, and learning throughout their lives. He stressed the need for relevant skills to tackle modern challenges and aid in community development.

The convocation ceremony included giving honorary degrees to Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil and Alhaji Abdulmumini Mai Shanu (A.Y. Shafa). A posthumous doctorate was awarded to the late Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata for his contributions.

The event gathered the university’s governing bodies, management, academic and non-academic staff, graduates, parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders, government officials, and other notable guests.
