The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor, Abdullahi Idris, has defended Governor Nasir Idris' backing for President Bola Tinubu. He stated that the governor has both the moral and political duty to rally support for the President’s re-election in 2027.
In a statement shared with journalists on Monday, titled “In Defence of Governor Idris’ Support for President Tinubu,” the governor’s aide, Sadaukin Zuru, mentioned that Kebbi State has gained a lot from its connection with the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.
He pointed out that the people of Kebbi chose Governor Idris under the APC in the 2023 governorship election. He called this choice a vote of confidence in the governor’s experience, public service, and commitment to progress.
"Multi-party democracy gives Nigerians the sovereign right to choose their party and direction. In 2023, the people of Kebbi State made that choice decisively by electing Comrade Governor Nasir Idris under the All Progressives Congress (APC)," he said.
Zuru also highlighted that President Tinubu has improved the state’s relationship with the Federal Government. He allowed Governor Idris to suggest qualified Kebbi indigenes for federal board and commission appointments.
"After years of the state losing its share of membership in federal boards and commissions, President Tinubu has changed that. He has given Comrade Nasir Idris the authority to recommend credible, experienced, and selfless Kebbi indigenes for appointments," he said.
The governor’s aide noted that the President has listened to the governor’s concerns about the unfair removal or denial of deserving Kebbi indigenes from federal roles.
Sadaukin Zuru also credited the good relationship between the state and the Federal Government for helping to tackle security issues. He mentioned that the Federal Government recognized Governor Idris’ support for security agencies through logistics and financial help in the fight against banditry.
He pointed to federal agricultural support as well. He said additional food and farming assistance from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has added to the state government’s yearly distribution of free farming inputs.
"These gains prove that Kebbi benefits most when it stands firmly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre," he stated.
He stressed that the governor’s support for Tinubu does not take away citizens’ democratic rights. He emphasized that every Nigerian is free to vote based on personal beliefs.
"The governor also affirms that every Nigerian retains the constitutional right to vote according to conscience and the track record of the candidate of his or her choice," he said.
As the country heads toward the 2027 general elections, Sadaukin Zuru called for more mobilization. He urged APC members and supporters across Kebbi State to work towards ensuring another win for President Tinubu.
"As we approach 2027, Governor Nasir Idris is calling on all APC members and lovers of progress in Kebbi to mobilize massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election. The centre is listening to Kebbi, and we must keep that door open," he added.
