Kogi Governor Ododo mourns former governor Idris, announces three days of mourning

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, is very sad about the death of former governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris. He called his death a big loss for Kogi State and for Nigeria.

Governor Ododo has also declared three days of mourning for the former governor. He ordered that the national flag and the Kogi State flag be flown at half-mast in all government offices and other public places in the state during this mourning period.

This information was shared in a statement on Sunday by the state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo. This came shortly after the news of the former governor’s death reached Kogi State.

Ododo visited the home of the late Ibrahim Idris to pay his respects to the Idris family. He showed support and sympathy to those who are grieving.

In a condolence letter to the family, Ododo said that the death of Idris has taken away a great son of Kogi State. He noted that Idris dedicated much of his life to serving the people.

The governor also announced that the late former governor will receive a state burial. The Kogi State Government will cover all burial costs and make proper arrangements to honor him as a former governor.

Ibrahim Idris was the governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011. During his time in office, he worked hard for the development of the state and its institutions.

Ododo highlighted that Idris's government made significant improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other important areas. He added that the results of Idris's leadership will always be part of Kogi State’s history.

The governor said, “Beyond the projects and policies associated with his administration, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris would be remembered as a public servant who committed himself to the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people.

“His years in public office formed an important chapter in the political and developmental journey of Kogi State,” Governor Ododo said.

He encouraged the family to find strength in the good memories of how Idris served and the positive changes he brought to many lives.

While Kogi State mourns the former governor, Ododo mentioned that his death is also a time to reflect on a life spent in public service and the growth of Kogi State.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Kogi State, Governor Ododo extended his deepest condolences to the Idris family, friends, associates and all those who mourn the former governor,” the commissioner said.

He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the deceased's mistakes, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the family and people of Kogi State strength to cope with the great loss.
