No fewer than 180 golfers took part in the recent Leadership Cup of The Lagos Golf Experience. This event was organised by the Lagos State Golf Association. It combined golf with leadership, networking, and social impact.
The event took place at the Ikoyi Club 1938. A major highlight was the Leadership Golf Clinic, which introduced 20 key leaders to the game. The participants included permanent secretaries from the Lagos State Government and senior executives from finance and capital markets.
Princess Damilola Sunayon, who represented Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, performed the ceremonial leadership tee-off during the opening ceremony. Maureen Tamuno, the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, also supported the event. She showed her commitment to women's golf by giving a special prize for the best golfer in the Queens of the Greens category.
The prize presentation and gala dinner attracted many dignitaries from corporate, political, social, and sports backgrounds. The Lagos Golf Experience aims to showcase the vision of the new executive committee of the Lagos State Golf Association.
One main goal of the association is to encourage more women aged 18 and above, as well as children and young people, to take up golf. They want to show the benefits of golf as a sport and as a way to network and develop personal and leadership skills.
The Leadership Golf Clinic is a significant step toward this goal. It brings golf to new audiences by introducing influential leaders and professionals to the game.
Through events like The Lagos Golf Experience, Leadership Golf Clinic, and Queens of the Greens, the Lagos State Golf Association is promoting golf as more than just a sport. They want to use it as a platform for leadership development, inclusion, mentorship, networking, and community building.
The Lagos State Golf Association is chaired by Deji Johnson, who is the son of the late former Lagos State Governor, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson. Kemi Olowoyo-Otegbade, an experienced public relations and human resources expert, serves as the vice-chairman.
