Leeds United are looking to sign Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi in January. The Porto left-back's contract situation might allow for a cheaper deal.
The Premier League club thinks they could reach an agreement easily if Porto does not give the defender a new contract. This is according to Football Insider, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Leeds has been watching the 29-year-old for a while. They thought about bringing him in during the last two transfer windows.
Sanusi's contract runs out at the end of the 2026/27 season. Leeds is reportedly thinking of getting him in January instead of waiting until he is a free agent next summer.
The club wants to strengthen their left-back options. They want to add competition for Gabriel Gudmundsson, who joined Leeds in 2025 and has been impressive since he arrived.
Last season, Sanusi started 11 league games for Porto. So far, he has made five starts in the current 2026/27 season.
The Nigerian player is now in his seventh season with Porto, having joined the team in 2020. He also has 29 UEFA Champions League appearances and is playing in the competition again this season.
His experience at a high level could attract Leeds as they aim to improve their squad. They want to be careful with spending since they returned to the Premier League in 2025.
But whether Leeds can sign him in January may depend on whether Porto offers Sanusi a new contract soon. If his contract situation stays unresolved, Leeds might negotiate a lower fee.
