Man Arrested for Phone Fraud and Gun Possession in Abia

A 28-year-old man named Ugochukwu Precious has been arrested by the Abia State Police. He is accused of violent crimes and having a gun without permission.

Precious, who lives in Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, was picked up by the Rapid Response Squad, Aba North. This happened after a report was made about him not paying for an iPhone 17 Pro Max that he got through a payment-on-delivery deal.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, shared this information in a statement on Friday. She spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi.

Chinaka mentioned that the police received the complaint from RRS Aba North on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The complaint stated that Precious got the phone in April but did not pay for it.

She explained that things got worse when Precious started threatening the seller. He even hired thugs to intimidate the person he owed money to.

"Based on good information, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS Abia State Police Command, caught the suspect. He has admitted to the allegations," the statement said.

The police continued their investigation and found a pump-action shotgun with the suspect on Wednesday, September 23.

The police are still looking for other members of Precious's gang who are not yet caught.

They added that Precious would be taken to court after their investigations are complete.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, urged people to follow the law. He asked residents to help the police by giving useful information that could stop crime.
