MultiChoice has shut down its popular Africa Magic Family channel after 12 years. They are replacing it with a new entertainment channel called Africa Magic+. This change is part of updates to their DStv services.
The news came out on Thursday via Africa Magic's official Instagram page. They described the closure as the end of one chapter and the start of another.
In the post, the channel said goodbye to its viewers with the message, "Goodbye, Africa Magic Family." They added that this closure would bring in something new.
"One chapter closes, but the story is far from over.
Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way," the post stated.
The channel encouraged viewers to look forward to its new replacement. They wrote, "Expect more variety on Africa Magic+". The new channel is set to launch on November 5 at 6am West African Time.
"More stories, more drama, more variety. Expect more on Africa Magic+ from November 5, 6AM WAT," they added.
This announcement marks the end of Africa Magic Family’s 12-year presence on DStv. The channel was known for showing family-friendly Nollywood films, Nigerian drama series, and other African entertainment shows.
It gained a loyal audience among viewers who enjoyed locally produced movies and TV dramas, especially Nigerian stories.
Africa Magic+, the new channel, is expected to provide a wider mix of entertainment options.
This change is part of a larger shake-up of DStv’s channel lineup and subscription packages, which will start on November 5, 2026.
The new channel aligns with MultiChoice’s goal to refresh its programming and broaden the range of content available to viewers.
