Ogun Crime Watch has asked the Nigeria Police Force to invite Nollywood actor Kunle Afod for questioning. They claim he shared false information about a road accident that happened on Friday at Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The group believes Afod's video misrepresents what happened and misleads the public about how the Ogun State Government responded to the accident.
They pointed out that the timing of Afod's video raised serious concerns. He questioned the emergency response to the accident just one minute after the Ogun State emergency team arrived at the scene. According to Ogun Crime Watch, the team got there at 12:28 p.m., while Afod posted his video at 12:29 p.m.
Ogun Crime Watch said this timing raises doubts about Afod's claims and how he made the video. They noted that emergency responders were already helping the victims when the video was shared. The group believes the video was made to create a bad impression of the government's response and to hurt public trust in the emergency management system.
They also said that Afod's actions seem politically motivated. They added that the safety of the public and the welfare of accident victims should not be used for political gain. Ogun Crime Watch wants the police to look into the situation, find out the facts, and see if any laws were broken when the misleading information was shared.
The group made it clear that they are not trying to stop free speech or valid criticism of the government. They are asking for responsibility, accuracy, and accountability, especially when it comes to emergencies that involve people's lives.
The accident involved a Mazda bus carrying 18 passengers. The bus reportedly had a tyre burst before crashing into a concrete barrier near Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Thirteen passengers were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment.
Ogun Crime Watch expressed sympathy for the victims and their families. They wish those receiving medical care a quick recovery. They also advised drivers to stick to speed limits, avoid reckless driving, keep their vehicles in good shape, and follow Federal Road Safety Corps rules to help lower preventable road accidents.
The group urged public figures and social media influencers to be careful and check facts before sharing information. They warned that careless comments during emergencies can cause panic, mislead the public, and damage trust in emergency responders.
