Napoli has confirmed that coach Antonio Conte will leave the club after two years. This news came out on Thursday. Former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri is seen as the top choice to take over.
The club said in a statement, “Napoli announces that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte and his staff to part ways before the natural expiry of their contracts.” They added, “We would like to thank the coach and his backroom team for their excellent work. We wish them the very best for the future and the next challenges they will face in their careers.”
The club ended their message with, “Thanks, coach!” Conte, who is 56 years old, led Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/25 season. He has been mentioned as a strong candidate to become the new coach of the Italy national team.
Conte had previously managed the Italian national team from 2014 to 2016. He took them to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, where they lost to Germany on penalties.
Reports say Napoli is in advanced talks with Allegri, who is 58 years old. Allegri was recently sacked as AC Milan coach after they missed out on next season’s Champions League.
