Napoli, who finished second in Serie A, announced on Thursday that coach Antonio Conte will leave the club after two years. Former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri is expected to take over.
The club said in a statement, “Napoli announces that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte and his staff to part ways before the natural expiry of their contracts.”
They added, “We would like to thank the coach and his backroom team for their excellent work. We wish them the very best for the future and the next challenges they will face in their careers. Thanks, coach!”
Conte, who is 56 years old, led Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/25 season. He is being considered as the favorite to become the new Italy coach.
The former Italy international was in charge of the national team from 2014 to 2016. During that time, he took them to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, where they lost to Germany on penalties.
Reports say that Napoli is in advanced talks with Allegri, who is 58 years old. He was let go as AC Milan coach after they failed to qualify for the Champions League next season.
