Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested three drug traffickers. They were caught with 558,000 pills of tramadol after good intelligence led to their arrest.

The Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, shared this news in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr Babafemi explained that two men from Benin Republic and one Nigerian were arrested on June 21. They were caught on the Mile 2 Bridge when their truck was stopped. The truck was carrying illegal drugs from Togo through Benin Republic.

“A thorough search of the truck led to the recovery of 558,900 pills of tramadol 250mg. The drugs were hidden in a special compartment of the vehicle,” he said.

In another case, two suspects were arrested on the Lagos, Ibadan expressway on Friday, June 26. They were caught with 118kg of skunk, a type of cannabis, mixed with legal goods in their truck. The truck had left the Ebute Ero area of Lagos Island and was heading to Onitsha, Anambra State.

On Saturday, June 27, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit arrested a 57-year-old man at a motor park in Iddo, Lagos. He had 209.50kg of Scottish Loud, which is a strong strain of cannabis meant for Enugu when he was caught.

In another operation in Lagos, Mr Babafemi mentioned that two women were arrested on Friday, June 26, at 15 Olumokun Street, Amukoko. They had 28.8 kilograms of skunk in their possession.

Investigations showed that the main suspect stored her drugs with the second suspect. From there, she distributed the drugs to her customers.

Mr Babafemi also noted that NDLEA teams across Nigeria continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) activities in schools. They visited places like worship centers, workplaces, and communities in the past week.

“These are WADA enlightenment lectures for students and staff of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Damaturu, Yobe; Adesalu Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

“Also, Government Girls Secondary School, Badawa, Kano; School of Science and Islamic Studies, Ankpa, Kogi; and Community Secondary School, Ezimo, Udenu LGA, Enugu state, among others,” he said.

The NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, praised the officers in Anambra and Lagos commands for their work. He acknowledged their efforts in reducing drug supply while also carrying out WADA activities. He encouraged them and their colleagues across the country to keep up the good work.
