Newly elected President of the Nigeria Para Swimming Federation, Prince Adeshina Adeyemi, wants to help Nigerian athletes succeed at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. He shared his ambitious plans focused on developing grassroots programs, increasing competitions, and giving swimmers more chances to compete internationally.

Speaking with reporters in Lagos over the weekend, Adeyemi, who took office with Vice President Dr Ahmed Alao after the National Sports Commission inaugurated the new board, said his main goal is to create more chances for athletes to train and compete locally and abroad.

“I am committed to working with dedication to promote the growth of para swimming and support our athletes,” Adeyemi said. “Together, we can create more opportunities, strengthen our federation and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our athletes.”

One of his immediate goals is to get para swimming included in the 2026 National Sports Festival in Enugu. The new president shared that talks have already started with the necessary authorities.

He believes this move will create more competition opportunities and help find new talent across Nigeria. Adeyemi also promised to organize more para swimming events across the country. He wants Nigerian athletes to compete regularly at international championships as they prepare for the Los Angeles Games.

“Our major focus is the elevation of para swimming and changing its fortunes for the better,” he said. “We want to ensure there are more para swimming activities across the country and that our athletes participate in as many international competitions as possible on the road to the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.”

The new federation president thanked board members for trusting him to lead. He also expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission for giving him this opportunity.

“I am sincerely grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me by the board members. I would also like to thank the National Sports Commission, the Honourable Chairman and the Director General for this incredible opportunity,” he said.

The new board starts its work as the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade, continues its reforms. These reforms aim to strengthen governance and improve athlete development across the country's sports federations. Under Adeyemi’s leadership, the federation aims to build a stronger local structure that can produce athletes who can compete successfully at both continental and global levels.
