Newcastle United have put forward a €24m bid for rising Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna. This comes even though AIK already has a verbal deal with Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Brighton has been in talks to sign the talented AIK Fotboll winger after making a €24m offer. This happened just days after the Swedish club announced it had started discussions about selling him.
Brighton is getting ready for European football again after finishing eighth in the Premier League for the 2025/26 season, which secured them a spot in the UEFA Conference League.
Fabian Hürzeler’s team is expected to look for new players this summer. Adam Webster will leave when his contract ends, and James Milner has announced his retirement.
While talks with Brighton continue, reports from Sweden indicate that Newcastle is trying to outbid their Premier League rivals.
“Newcastle have entered the race for Zadok Yohanna. The interest is concrete. However, Yohanna and Brighton have an agreement in place, as revealed and now 100 per cent confirmed again,” said Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on X.
“Brighton are still in direct negotiations with AIK. Brighton are not giving up despite Newcastle and other clubs. A decision is expected soon.”
Swedish news outlet Expressen also mentioned that Newcastle’s offer includes bonuses based on Yohanna’s performance.
“Expressen understands that negotiations are ongoing between the clubs and sources also confirm that Brighton are still in the picture and are pushing hard to sign Yohanna in competition with Newcastle. French club Rennes are also in the picture, as Expressen has previously reported, as well as another club in the Premier League.”
Given the size of the bid, Yohanna could become the most expensive player sold in Allsvenskan history. This comes just over a year after he joined AIK from Nigeria.
Yohanna has made a strong impact in AIK’s first team since arriving last year, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 18 matches across all competitions, mainly playing as a right winger.
