Troops of the Nigerian Army carried out a raid on a suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp. They found a stash of weapons and ammunition in Obibi Forest, located in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
This information comes from an operational report shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
The report stated that the operation took place around 5:37 p.m. on Wednesday. It was led by troops from the 197 Special Forces Battalion, with support from the 342 Army Reference Hospital, the Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilantes.
During the operation, the troops arrested one suspected IPOB member. They recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, one G3 rifle, and one magazine with 15 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
The troops also found an extra 64 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, one motorcycle, and some charms during the raid.
The arrested suspect and the recovered items were handed over to the 34 Artillery Brigade for further investigation and action.
