Nigerian father dies in UK car accident

A Nigerian man, David Adediwura, who was a father of three, has died in a road accident in the United Kingdom. His family and friends have started a fundraising campaign to help with his funeral and to support his wife and children.

PUNCH Metro learned on Tuesday from a GoFundMe page set up by Iretiayo Oyewole, a former colleague of Adediwura, that he died in a serious car crash at Cory Wright Way, Wheathampstead, around 9:38 p.m. BST last Wednesday.

Oyewole described the death as sudden and devastating. He said it has left family, friends, and colleagues struggling to accept the loss.

"David’s death was sudden, heartbreaking, and completely unexpected. News of the tragedy has left his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him grappling with an unimaginable loss," the appeal stated.

Oyewole recalled Adediwura as a hardworking man and caring colleague. His kindness and willingness to help others made him admired by many.

"David was more than a colleague. He was a valued member of our community whose presence, kindness, and contributions touched the lives of those around him.

"He will be remembered for his warm personality, generosity, dedication to his work, and willingness to support others," Oyewole added.

The fundraiser aims to raise £10,000. This money will help pay for funeral costs, transport, immediate financial support for his family, and other expenses related to giving him a dignified burial.

"This fundraiser is being organised by his former colleague from Yodel and DHL, with the knowledge and consent of David’s family. All donations will be used for the purposes described above, and appropriate updates will be provided to donors," the appeal said.

Oyewole asked the public to help the campaign by donating or sharing it, and he urged well-wishers to keep the family in prayers.

Meanwhile, Adedeji’s widow, Modinat Adebayo, has shared a heartfelt tribute to him. She called his death the darkest day of her life.

Adebayo posted this tribute on Facebook on Saturday, a few days after her husband’s tragic accident. She said the couple had moved from Nigeria to the UK, hoping to create a better future for their family, but that dream ended with the accident.

"The 22nd of July, 2026, became the darkest day of my life. You left home in search of a better future for our family, never knowing it would be your final journey. A tragic gasoline motor fire accident took you away from us, and our lives changed forever," she wrote.

She described her husband as her best friend, confidant, prayer partner, and greatest supporter. Adebayo noted that he worked hard to provide for their family.

She remembered their last conversation on the night before he died. She said that moment would stay with her forever, as he left without saying goodbye.

"The last conversation we had on Wednesday night will forever remain in my heart. I never imagined those would be the last words I would ever hear from you. You left without saying goodbye. Your absence has left a pain that words cannot describe," she added.

The grieving widow mentioned that their three children, along with other family members and friends, are finding it hard to cope with the loss of a man she described as kind, humble, hardworking, and selfless.

At the time of this report, £795 had been raised out of the £6,500 target.
