The Nigerian entertainment scene came out in large numbers on Wednesday for the service of songs for late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
Reports say the popular actor passed away on May 11, 2026, after fighting kidney cancer.
Following the funeral plans shared by the Ekubo family, colleagues, friends, and notable figures filled The Monarch Event Centre, all dressed in white.
Videos shared on social media show that big names from the movie, music, and lifestyle industries were there to pay their respects to the late actor.
Famous actresses like Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, and Nkechi Blessing were seen at the event.
Celebrity couple Stan Nze and Blessing Obasi, actor Frederick Leonard, media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Nigerian singer Chike Osebukam, and well-known socialite Cubana Chief Priest also showed up in their white outfits.
The spiritual mood of the night was set by worship sessions led by gospel ministers Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs, along with Mercy Chinwo, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings. Pastor Jerry Eze also ministered during the event.
The Ekubo family had earlier shared an obituary statement on the late actor’s official Instagram page, asking fans and the public to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
Wednesday’s service of songs officially kicked off Ekubo’s burial rites.
As per the official schedule, the funeral will now move to the late actor’s home state of Abia State, where a wake-keep is planned for June 17. Alexx Ekubo will be laid to rest on June 18.
