Nollywood stars like Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, and Toyosi Adesanya have made their way to Ilaro, Ogun State, for the burial of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, who is widely known as Ogogo.
The actors arrived in the hometown of the late actor on Monday morning ahead of the burial rites planned for later that day.
Also present in Ilaro are Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba. They will join other colleagues, family, and friends for the Janazah prayers for the departed actor.
Actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi honored Ogogo during an interview with journalists before the burial, praying for him to achieve Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial rites took place just a day after Ogogo’s body was brought to Ilaro following his death on Sunday.
Ogogo passed away at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko shared the news on his Instagram page.
Kosoko announced that Ogogo’s body would be taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony was set for Monday.
His statement said, “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.
“His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where the lying-in-state ceremony will take place tomorrow.
“Date: Monday, 24th August 2026
“Time: 11:00 a.m.
“Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”
The Ilaro Muslim Community also shared the burial prayer for the late actor.
The announcement, posted by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, said, “Innalillahi wainna ilaihi raji’un.
“The Ilaro Muslim Community wishes to announce the burial of our beloved brother, Alhaji Hassan Taiwo (Ogogo).
“Burial Prayer at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground. 10 a.m.
“Announcer. Chief Imam Ilaro.”
Ogogo’s passing came shortly after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, sought medical help for their father. He had been fighting stage-four cancer.
Kaira revealed that doctors had told the family they could no longer give him chemotherapy due to his condition, leading them to look for other treatment options.
The actor was a well-known figure in the Nigerian movie scene, especially in Yoruba films.
His career lasted over forty years, during which he acted in hundreds of films and became one of the most familiar faces in Yoruba cinema.
