Ogunsakin climbs to 59th in world junior tennis rankings

Nigeria's tennis star, Seun Ogunsakin, has reached a new high ranking of 59th in the world. He is now the third-best player in Africa according to the latest junior rankings from the International Tennis Federation released on Monday.

Ogunsakin's success came after he won the J200 Cairo tournament in Egypt last weekend.

The 17-year-old, who trains at the African Regional Tennis Centre in Tunisia, had dropped to 91st in the world rankings. But his victory in Egypt pushed him up 32 spots to a career-best 59th.

The young player from Ekiti State has had a great year. He made his debut in the qualifying round at Roland Garros and also in the main draw at Wimbledon.

This latest ranking boost comes as he prepares for the 2027 Australian Open Junior Championships. He hopes to make another appearance at a Grand Slam event.

Getting a spot at the Australian Open would give Ogunsakin a chance to measure his skills against some of the best young tennis players in the world. It would also help him build his reputation in the international junior tennis scene.
