Ogunsakin knocked out of US Open in second round

Nigeria’s Oluwaseun Ogunsakin has seen his dream at the US Open Junior Championships end. The player from Aurum Tennis Academy was beaten in the second round by South Africa’s Connor Doig at Flushing Meadows.

Doig won the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a tough contest. This defeat marked the end of Ogunsakin’s campaign at the last junior Grand Slam of the year.

Doig started strong, taking the first set 6-2. But Ogunsakin showed great spirit and fought back to win the second set 6-4, forcing a final set. In the end, Doig found another level and won the match 6-3 to move on.

Even with this loss, Ogunsakin’s journey to the second round is a big achievement in his promising career this year.

The teenager had to go through qualifying rounds to enter the main draw. He beat Poland’s Tymon Litwic 6-3, 6-0, and then defeated top seed Felix Roussel of Canada 6-3, 6-4 to secure his spot among the world’s best junior players.

Once in the main draw, Ogunsakin celebrated his first Grand Slam main-draw victory. He came back from a set down to defeat 15th seed Kuan-Shou Chen from Chinese Taipei 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in a tough opening match. This win showed his growing confidence on the big stage.

The US Open was Ogunsakin’s third junior Grand Slam this year. He had earlier played at the French Open and Wimbledon. At Wimbledon, he reached the main draw of the boys’ singles and made it to the semi-finals in the doubles. This was a historic run that introduced his talent on the international scene.

Playing in all three Grand Slam junior events this year is another step in Ogunsakin’s growth. He is gaining valuable experience against some of the best junior players worldwide.

Ogunsakin will now focus on the next part of his season. His exit from Flushing Meadows is unlikely to affect what has been an impressive year on the international junior circuit.
