Over 300 Kids Join Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp

More than 300 children have started the first Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp at the New Maracana Stadium in Tolu, Lagos.

A total of 321 kids signed up for the four-week camp after over 1,000 children came on the opening day.

Every camper got an official jersey. Some also received full training kits, including boots, gloves, shin guards, jerseys, and balls, thanks to Gear ’em Up, a US-based group.

The camp coordinator, McAnthony Anaelechukwu, said the program aims to find and nurture young talents while teaching them discipline and good character.

“This is about catching them young, building their talent, and building their character. We want to give Lagos children a safe space to dream, learn discipline, and discover what they’re capable of,” Anaelechukwu said.

Twenty trained coaches, a medical team, and kitchen staff are on hand to take care of the kids during the four-week program.

The camp has football and basketball activities. Participants are doing warm-ups, drills, and other training sessions under the coaches' guidance.

Some children also received special gear, like football boots and goalkeeper gloves, to help them join in the camp activities.

Parents are happy with the program, especially since it is free and keeps their kids active and engaged during the holiday.

The camp organizers noted that more than 1,000 kids showed up on the first day, showing that there is a strong demand for organized sports activities for young people in Lagos.
