Pastor Okonkwo's Love Matchmaking Service Draws Criticism

Kingsley Okonkwo, the founder and lead pastor of David’s Christian Centre (DCC), is facing backlash after introducing a new matchmaking service called “Mentor To Marry (MTM).” This service targets high-profile singles looking for love and comes with a hefty price tag of ₦700,000.

Mr Okonkwo, who is known for his expertise in relationships and marriage, announced the launch on his X page on Tuesday. He expressed his concern for young men today, saying that relationships have become too commercialized.

He believes this commercialization makes it hard for young men to find genuine love. He said he started this platform to help tackle this problem.

The pastor noted, “When we were young, all you had to get was a girl’s phone number, but now all they want to send is their account number. Now you are expected to pay rent, school fees and transport before you are taken seriously.”

He added, “If you are a guy and feel relationships are out of your reach because you are not rich or you just want to meet godly, well-mentored ladies from all over the world, then you have to join.”

Mr Okonkwo encouraged single men to sign up, assuring them there are women who do not view relationships only as a business opportunity.

MTM Packages

PREMIUM TIMES checked out the MTM platform, including its terms and membership requirements. They found that members must pay to access the matchmaking service.

There are three membership options available. The regular plan costs ₦70,000 each year. This includes eight weeks of mentoring classes, assessments, limited profile access, and five weekly chats.

The premium plan is priced at ₦350,000 annually. It includes everything from the regular plan plus unlimited profile browsing, monthly recommendations, and 10 weekly chats.

The VIP package costs ₦700,000 each year. This includes a dedicated matchmaker, priority access to the platform’s founders, and 15 weekly chats.

The platform explained that it uses membership fees, subscriptions, course fees, and other payments to support its operations. It also noted that payments can be made in different currencies through third-party providers.

Members will be responsible for any charges from their banks or payment providers. The platform can suspend or cancel access to paid services if payments fail or if members do not renew their subscriptions.

MTM Guidelines

According to MTM, members must finish an eight-week mentoring program that includes classes and assessments before they can be matched.

MTM is based on Christian beliefs and values. It aims to help Christians seeking Christ-centered relationships and marriages. Its teachings align with its Statement of Faith and Community Principles.

Users must respect the platform’s Christian identity and purpose. To create an account, individuals must be at least 25 years old and identify as Christians. They also need to follow the terms of use and provide accurate profile information.

MTM can reject registrations, suspend access, or terminate accounts if they suspect a user does not meet its requirements. The platform does not provide counseling or therapy services.

Members are responsible for their choices and well-being. They may need to share details like their name, age, marital status, and church affiliation when creating a profile.

Users must ensure their information is accurate and respectful. MTM can remove or limit content that does not follow its rules.

Members using MTM’s services must truthfully disclose their marital status. The platform accepts three categories: never married, divorced, or widowed. If members are married or provide false information about their status, they may lose access to the platform.
