Veteran actor Pete Edochie, actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri, actress Peju Ogunmola, and filmmaker Steve Sodiya will receive Special Recognition Awards at the 2026 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.
The organisers announced the awardees in a statement before this year’s ceremony. They said the recipients were chosen for their impact on the Nigerian film industry, their long careers, mentorship, and influence on many filmmakers and audiences.
The awards will be given out at the 2026 BON Awards ceremony, which will take place later this year. The organisers promised to share the date and venue soon.
Why were they chosen
The BON Awards committee explained that the four honorees have made important contributions to different parts of Nollywood.
Mr Edochie, a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), is being honoured for his long-standing acting career and for playing roles that represent authority, wisdom, and African culture.
Ruth Kadiri
Ms Kadiri is known for her work as an actress, producer, and screenwriter. She is being recognised for her successful films and for supporting digital filmmaking through YouTube.
The organisers also praised her for helping new talents behind the scenes.
Peju Ogunmola
Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola is receiving the honour for her work in Yoruba and English-language films. She has also helped promote indigenous culture through theatre and cinema.
Steve Sodiya
Steve Sodiya is being recognised for his work as a filmmaker, editor, and director. He has contributed to talent development and filmmaking both in front of and behind the camera.
The organisers said this year’s honourees represent different generations of Nollywood. They have played important roles in shaping the industry through their work and mentorship.
