Police Arrest Seven Cattle Rustlers in Jigawa State

The Jigawa State Police has busted a gang involved in cattle rustling that was troubling three local government areas. They arrested seven suspects and recovered eight cows along with two vehicles used in their operations.

In an interview with PUNCH Online on Friday in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the achievement. He said this arrest is a major win in the ongoing battle against cattle rustling in the state.

Adam mentioned that the suspects were part of a group operating in Garki, Jahun, and Miga Local Government Areas. He explained, “The suspects were caught by police during routine patrols based on actionable intelligence and timely information from alert citizens.”

During the operation, police officers seized two vehicles believed to be used by the gang for their illegal activities. Adam reported, “Eight cows suspected to have been stolen were recovered” in the same operation.

He explained that these arrests and recoveries came after continuous intelligence gathering, community interaction, and increased patrols in known crime spots and vulnerable areas. The spokesman said, “The Command’s quick response and the support from the public were key in disrupting the gang’s activities.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, praised the police officers involved in the operation for their alertness, bravery, and professionalism. Adam said, “He also thanked the public whose timely tips helped the Command catch the suspects and recover the cows.”

Identities of the suspects were revealed by the PPRO. They include Sulaiman Tijjani, 20, from Gunka village in Jahun LGA; Abdullahi Musa, 40, from Chai-chai village in Ringim LGA; and Bala Muhd, 30, from Ayama village in Auyo LGA.

The list continues with Isah Adamu, 27, from Tagwai village in Miga LGA; Yusuf Sa’idu, 32, from Kukui village in Taura LGA; Mansur Usaini, 29, from Majiyawa village in Ringim LGA; and Kaku Abubakar, 27, from Jajimaje village in Yobe State.

Adam stated that the items recovered include a dark blue Golf with registration number WRA 158 FU, an ash Golf 3 wagon with registration number ABJ 493 HN from Abuja, and eight cows.

He concluded, “The seven suspects are currently in police custody and are helping officers with valuable information about their operations.” The PPRO also mentioned that efforts are ongoing to find other members of the gang and recover more stolen livestock.
