The police in Abuja have arrested four people suspected of stealing cars. They reportedly pretended to be passengers using e-hailing services like Bolt and Uber, then robbed drivers of their cars and belongings.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, announced this on Monday while showing the suspects and the items they took at the police headquarters in Abuja.

Sanusi said the suspects were picked up on July 7, 2026. The police acted on solid information from the Violent Crime Response Unit.

He explained that the suspects booked rides through e-hailing services. After getting into the cars, they attacked the drivers and took their vehicles.

"The suspects operated by posing as regular passengers booking commercial vehicles through e-ride platforms before attacking the drivers, dispossessing them of their vehicles and other valuables," the CP said.

The suspects are Ibrahim Ismail, Ahmed Omar, Rizku Asehu, and Omar Abubakar. During the operation, police recovered two stolen cars from them.

The recovered cars are an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4 with the number plate YAB 240 DL and a grey Honda Civic with the number plate ABC 72 JP.

Sanusi stated that the suspects will face charges in court once investigations are finished. He noted that this arrest is part of the police's ongoing efforts to tackle violent crimes in the Federal Capital Territory.

He praised the support from the community, urging people to keep sharing information with the police.

"The achievements I present to you show the importance of partnership with the public and timely intelligence sharing in enhancing our efforts to keep the Federal Capital Territory safe for all residents and visitors alike," Sanusi said.

He reminded everyone that security is a shared responsibility and assured residents that the police will continue to fight against crime in and around Abuja.
