The police have arrested 29 people linked to several crimes, including the murder of a village head in Niger State.
The state command shared this news in a crime bulletin on Sunday from its spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun.
Murder of village head
The police said they arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of Bawa Barde, 53, the village head of Zhilu in Fuka District, Munya Local Government Area.
On 23 August at around 7 a.m., police received a distress call about an attack on the traditional leader. Officers from the Gwada divisional police headquarters found Mr Barde in his backyard, lying in a pool of blood with serious machete wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The police later arrested Zegi Dogari, 48; Danjuma Galadima, 50; Bashir Umar, 32; and John Doma, 35, between 25 and 28 August.
The suspects are said to have planned the attack on the village head due to a disagreement over a past incident involving Mr Umar and another person. The police also claimed that Mr Barde had warned Mr Umar, who is his cousin, against making a grazing route through his farmland.
The investigation uncovered more issues, including claims that Mr Dogari, a herbalist, had an affair with the wife of the deceased. According to the police, Mr Dogari admitted to this and was ordered to pay a N700,000 fine.
The police noted that the suspects, who are related to the deceased, have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further inquiries. They are expected to face charges in court for alleged culpable homicide.
