Police nab five suspects after church attack in Osun

Osun State Police said on Sunday that they have arrested five suspects over an attack on a Methodist Church in the Fiwasaye Area of Osogbo.

The police shared this information in a statement from their Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi. He mentioned that the suspects were caught at the crime scene.

Ojelabi noted that the suspects damaged a car parked at the church and also broke some louvre blades on the church windows.

A motorcycle was also found at the scene. The suspects identified in connection with this incident are Tajudeen Hassan, Adewale Yusuf, Kabiru Abdulsalam, Olanrewaju Abiodun, and a woman named Adewale Mujidat.

The police provided more details about the incident. They said, “On 20th September 2026, at about 1040 hours, we got a distress call from the Methodist Church Nigeria. A complainant reported that some youths playing football on a nearby land kicked the ball into the church compound, breaking one of the louvre glass windows.

“Instead of apologizing, the youths allegedly started throwing stones into the church. This caused more damage to additional louvre windows and the rear glass screen of a Mitsubishi vehicle belonging to a church member.”

After receiving the distress call, police from Iludun Division quickly went to the scene and arrested the suspects.

The police statement also mentioned, “One red Yamaha motorcycle, with registration number LRG 143 QE, was recovered from the scene.”

The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, expressed his concern about the incident. He ordered that the investigation be carried out properly and according to the law.

The Commissioner urged the public, especially the youth, to stay calm and avoid actions that could turn small disagreements into violence or destruction.

The police assured the public that appropriate legal steps will be taken based on the investigation's results.
