Three teenage boys, who were taken away, have been saved by the Zamfara State Police from the Bingi Forest area in Maru Local Government Area.
Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Tuesday. He said the boys were found wandering in the forest during a joint security patrol.
The rescued boys are Yusuf Ibrahim, 15; Basiru Yusuf, 17; and Mubarak Ibrahim, 18.
The statement said, "The Zamfara State Police Command, in its efforts to free all persons in captivity and prevent ransom payments to bandits, has intensified patrols across the state. This has led to another successful rescue operation.
"On May 31, 2026, around 1:00 p.m., a patrol team made up of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit of the 42 Police Mobile Force, the Violent Crime Response Unit, and members of the Community Protection Guard was on patrol in the risky Bingi Forest area of Maru Local Government Area. They found and rescued three boys wandering in the forest."
The police said that during questioning, the boys revealed they were taken from Marabe Village in the Kwaren Ganuwa District of Tsafe Local Government Area back in February 2026. They managed to escape from their kidnappers and were later found by the security team during their patrol.
The police took the boys to a government hospital for medical care before they were discharged.
"After that, they were handed over to the Executive Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Bello Jabaka, to be reunited with their families," the statement continued.
The police emphasized their commitment to bringing peace and security back to the state. They urged residents to keep sharing useful information with security agencies to help tackle crime.
This rescue happens as worries grow over the kidnapping of children in different parts of the country.
