Police Save Woman Abducted in Delta

The police in Delta State have rescued a woman who was kidnapped in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area.

This was shared in a statement by the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on Friday in Warri.

Mr Edafe, who is a superintendent of police, said the woman was taken on Wednesday at her home in Amukpe.

He explained that police officers from the Sapele Police Division worked with local vigilantes to find her on Thursday after they received a distress call.

The woman was trying to drive into her house when the criminals, who were waiting at the entrance, kidnapped her.

Mr Edafe said the suspects shot into the air several times before dragging her into nearby bushes.

"After getting the report, the Sapele Divisional Police Officer quickly sent patrol and surveillance teams to the area, where they found spent AK-47 bullet shells.

The officers, with support from local vigilantes, then started a thorough search of the nearby bushes.

They continued searching all night until the next morning," he said.

According to him, the kidnappers abandoned the woman and ran away on Thursday morning after sensing danger.

Mr Edafe confirmed that the woman was found safe and has since returned to her family.

He added that the police are working hard to track down the suspects who escaped.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta, Samuel Erale, praised the police and local vigilantes for their success.

Mr Edafe quoted the commissioner as saying that the command will keep up its intelligence-led operations and strong actions against kidnappers, cultists, and other criminals in the state.

He also told Delta residents that the police are committed to making the state safer and asked for their help with timely and useful information.
