Police Take Action Against Inspector for Controversial Comments

The Lagos State Police Command has started action against an inspector after a video went viral. In the video, he made some controversial comments while riding in a public vehicle.

The officer is Inspector Osumah Frank. The Command called his comments "careless, inappropriate and uncultured" in a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026. The statement was signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer.

In the video, Frank, dressed in police uniform, talked about Igbo people and the political ambitions of Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State. He also mentioned President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Frank suggested that police officers could take money to hinder a political candidate’s chances of winning.

The Command responded to the video by stating that the officer's comments were his personal opinion. They do not represent the views of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

"The Command has started appropriate disciplinary action against the officer based on the rules of the Nigeria Police Force," the statement said.

The Command also clarified that the officer's statements were made personally and do not reflect the position or official stance of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Tijani Fatai, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, reminded police personnel to act professionally and respect the public.

"All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times," Fatai's statement said.

He added that wearing the police uniform comes with the duty to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force. The Command will not allow any actions that could damage the reputation of the police or reduce public trust in the Force.

The Command promised to be transparent, accountable and to conduct policing with humility and integrity.

The video, which started circulating on social media from around September 23, received backlash for the officer's comments about Igbo people and his suggestion about police officers taking money to affect a political candidate's chances.

The police did not specify what exact disciplinary actions they are taking against Frank.
