Nigeria's Rafiu Durosinmi has marked a big event in his life by getting married to his Belgian-Nigerian partner, Praise Nwanegbo, over the weekend. This celebration came just after he played for the Super Eagles during the international break.
Durosinmi left Nigeria's camp following the team’s exciting 2-2 draw against Poland in Warsaw last Wednesday. He had to prepare for his wedding after the match.
During the June international break, Durosinmi exceeded what many expected. He was originally called up by head coach Eric Chelle for the 2026 Unity Cup in London. But when some key players like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman pulled out, Durosinmi's role grew.
He stayed with the squad beyond the Unity Cup and went to Poland to help with Nigeria’s extended preparations. The striker played for 45 minutes in the match against Poland, marking his third senior international appearance and gaining important experience.
After the match, Durosinmi left the camp to finalize his wedding plans. This meant he did not go with the team to Portugal for further preparations.
His wedding caps off a significant few weeks for him. Durosinmi was one of the new players introduced by Chelle during the Unity Cup. He made his senior debut for Nigeria against Zimbabwe at The Valley, coming off the bench in the second half to help the Super Eagles win 2-0.
His energetic performance earned him a starting position in the Unity Cup final against Jamaica. Durosinmi teamed up with captain Terem Moffi in the attack, helping Nigeria dominate the game and secure a solid 3-0 win, retaining the Unity Cup title.
With this personal achievement and a successful time with the national team, Durosinmi is set to return to club football with more confidence and motivation. He is keen to establish himself as a regular in the Super Eagles squad.
