Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rangers International have given head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu a one-year contract extension. This keeps the title-winning manager at the Enugu club until 2027, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The new deal follows another championship win, where Ilechukwu led the Flying Antelopes to their ninth NPFL title. They secured a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City on the final day of the 2025/26 season at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
This extension shows Ilechukwu’s status as one of the top managers in Nigerian football.
Since he joined Rangers in 2023 after good runs at MFM FC, Plateau United, and Heartland, the 47-year-old has led the team to two NPFL titles. He also guided the club to the championship in the 2023/24 season.
Ilechukwu's Impact
Ilechukwu is well-known in Nigerian football as “The Working One.” He has changed Rangers into the most consistent team in the country. He has brought the Coal City club back to the top of Nigerian football after years of struggles.
With his future now clear, the focus shifts to the CAF Champions League. Rangers will represent Nigeria in the next season.
The Flying Antelopes were knocked out in the second preliminary round of the 2024/25 competition by Angola’s Sagrada Esperança. They lost 3-1 on aggregate and will be eager to go further in their next continental challenge.
Ilechukwu also works as an assistant coach with the Super Eagles. This adds to his growing reputation in Nigerian football.
