Falcons Get Their WAFCON Rewards in Morocco

The Super Falcons, who are the current African champions, have received the rewards promised by the Federal Government after winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This was reported by The PUNCH.

Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, gave the rewards to the team in Rabat, Morocco, on Tuesday. This was just hours before Nigeria's first Group C match against Malawi in the 2026 WAFCON.

Photos shared by the Nigeria Football Federation on its official X account showed Dikko with NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, and team captain Rasheedat Ajibade.

The items given to Ajibade and her teammates included documents for the houses promised to each player and their national honours certificates. The NFF stated, "NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF GS Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday presented the 2025 WAFCON triumph rewards promised by the FGN to the Super Falcons in Rabat, Morocco."

Nigeria won their record-extending 10th WAFCON title by making a stunning comeback from two goals down to beat Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 tournament last year.

After this historic win, President Bola Tinubu announced a reward of $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical crew and backroom staff, a three-bedroom house for every team member, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

While the cash rewards were reported to have been paid after completing the necessary processes, the housing documents and national honours certificates had to wait until the team returned to Morocco for this year's tournament.

Last weekend, Dikko shared that the presentation was planned to match the squad's gathering for their title defence. He said, "I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts."

He added, "We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON."

Dikko also confirmed that the cash rewards had already been paid into the players' bank accounts after all required processes were completed.

This presentation comes as Nigeria starts their defence of the continental title in Morocco, aiming for an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title. After facing Malawi in their Group C opener on Tuesday, the Falcons will play Zambia and then wrap up the group stage against Egypt.
