Nnadozie gets house papers from Gusau after WAFCON win

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has received the documents for the house promised to each member of Nigeria’s squad that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This was reported by The PUNCH.

The Nigeria Football Federation shared the news on Monday through its official X account.

In a photo posted by the federation, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and the federation’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, handed over the property documents to the goalkeeper.

The caption for the photo read, “NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau presenting to goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie the certificate to the house promised the Super Falcons by the FGN for winning last year’s WAFCON title. Right is Ruth David, NFF’s Director of Competitions.”

As of this report, the NFF had not confirmed if the documents were given to other players on the winning team.

Nigeria secured its record-extending 10th WAFCON title last year. They came back from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final.

After this historic win, President Bola Tinubu announced rewards of $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for every member of the backroom staff, and a house for each player on the team.

Even though these promises were made immediately after the victory, the players had not confirmed receiving the cash rewards publicly. The housing documents were not presented until the NFF’s announcement on Monday.

Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, revealed last weekend that the presentation was timed to match the team’s gathering for this year’s tournament in Morocco. The Super Falcons will start their title defense against Malawi on Tuesday.

Dikko said, “I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts.”

He added, “We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON, which kicks off in Morocco in a few days.”

Dikko also mentioned that the players’ cash rewards have been credited to their bank accounts after all necessary processes were completed.

Nigeria will enter the 2026 WAFCON, which takes place from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco, as defending champions and record 10-time winners. The Super Falcons will play against debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match on Tuesday. They will face Zambia on Saturday, August 1, and Egypt four days later.

This tournament also serves as Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will automatically qualify, and one additional team will advance through the intercontinental play-offs.
