Jamal Musiala opened the scoring, and Michael Olise netted two goals as Bayern Munich enjoyed a 5-0 victory over Bodo-Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday night.
Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies also contributed to the scoreline for Bayern, who have won the Champions League six times. But the night belonged to Musiala, who was warmly greeted by his teammates after his goal on his return to the starting lineup.
The Germany international missed two games after he shared that he had a neurological condition. This condition caused him to collapse during two of Bayern’s pre-season friendlies.
This win kept Bayern’s impressive record alive. They have now won 24 straight Champions League opening matches since 2002.
Bodo, who surprised many last season by reaching the last 16, fought hard but struggled in the second half. They lost Odin Bjortuft to a straight red card for a last-man foul with just three minutes to go.
Musiala was one of three changes Bayern coach Vincent Kompany made to the starting XI from Saturday’s goalless draw against Schalke. Kane and Olise also returned to the lineup.
In the first half, Bayern faced challenges from Bodo’s strong defense. They had difficulty creating clear chances.
The game changed early in the second half when Musiala capitalized on a blocked shot from Kane and scored with a shot into the far corner.
Kane added another goal shortly after the hour mark. He headed in a free-kick from Olise, extending his Champions League scoring streak to eight matches.
Bayern dominated in the final minutes, scoring three goals in the last 15 minutes of the game.
Davies scored a fantastic long-range goal with 13 minutes left on the clock. Six minutes later, Olise followed with a stunning shot into the top left corner from 25 yards out.
The French winger capped off the night with another brilliant goal in stoppage time, rounding off a strong second-half performance by Bayern.
