Super Falcons Receive Houses From FG Before Malawi Match

The National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday presented the promised rewards from the Federal Government to the Super Falcons. This celebration happened in Rabat, Morocco, just before Nigeria's first match in the 2026 WAFCON. The defending champions are set to defend their title against Malawi on Tuesday.

The NFF shared the news on their official X account. They wrote, “NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF GS Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday presented the 2025 WAFCON triumph rewards promised by the FGN to the Super Falcons.”

The rewards include a cash gift of $100,000 for each player. This money has already been sent to their individual bank accounts. Each player also receives a three-bedroom apartment under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate, which was presented to them today. The technical crew members will also get their rewards.

PUNCH Online had reported earlier that President Bola Tinubu announced these rewards shortly after the Super Falcons won the 2025 WAFCON. The announcement also included the granting of national honours. But the house presentation took nearly a year due to administrative delays.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko explained last week that they timed the official presentation to match the team's assembly for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco. He said, “I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts.”

“We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON, which kicks off in Morocco in a few days,” Dikko added. He also confirmed that the players’ cash rewards were paid after the necessary procedures were completed.

Nigeria comes into the 2026 WAFCON as the defending champions and ten-time winners. The Super Falcons will start their quest for an 11th continental title against first-timers Malawi. They will then face Zambia and Egypt in their other Group C matches.

The tournament runs from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco. It also serves as Africa’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically, while one more team will advance through the intercontinental play-offs.
