Nigerian champions Rangers International ended their match against AS Sobemap FC from Benin Republic in a 1-1 draw. This was in the first leg of their continental clash in Abeokuta on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Rangers started the game well. They took the lead when Chidozie Iwundu scored in the 23rd minute.
This goal gave Rangers the upper hand. It seemed they were on track to win the first leg.
But AS Sobemap came back to equalize in the second half. They made sure both teams left the pitch with a point each.
Rangers tried hard to score again, but they could not break through AS Sobemap’s defense. The match ended in a draw.
This result means that the tie is still open as both teams prepare for the second leg.
Rangers might feel let down for not winning after taking the lead. Still, they can take heart from scoring. They will aim to get the job done in the return match.
On the other hand, Sobemap will be happy with their effort to come back and secure a draw in Abeokuta.
With the score at 1-1, Rangers need to be sharper in the second leg if they want to advance. Sobemap will know that a win will be enough for them to move forward.
