Rangers International, the champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, held a trophy parade in Enugu on Tuesday. They celebrated winning their ninth league title, according to reports from PUNCH Sports Extra.
Rangers secured the 2025/26 NPFL title on Sunday, May 24, after defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 in a thrilling final match in Lagos. This win was crucial as they battled with Rivers United for the championship on the last day.
The players and officials paraded through various areas in Enugu before finishing at Okpara Square. They received a warm welcome from fans throughout the city.
Their celebration also included a visit to the Government House. There, they were received by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah.
Title Decider
Rangers entered the final match knowing they needed to win against Ikorodu City, who had not lost at home prior to that day. They achieved this goal, securing their ninth league title. This was despite Rivers United winning 3-0 against Katsina United in Port Harcourt.Rangers finished the season at the top of the table with 68 points. They were just one point ahead of Rivers United, who came in second place.
Rich History
This victory adds to Rangers’ impressive history, marking another achievement in their journey. They had previously won the league titles in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, 2016, and 2023/24. This win further establishes their position as one of the most successful clubs in Nigerian football.With this title, they are now equal with Enyimba, both having nine league titles, which is the highest in the history of Nigerian top-flight football.
