Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle has said Nigeria will fight for victory in their friendly against Poland on Wednesday. The arrival of defender Calvin Bassey has given the team a big boost in Warsaw.

Bassey joined the squad at the team’s Presidential Hotel on Tuesday. This brought the number of players in camp to 20, giving Chelle almost a full squad ahead of the match against Poland.

The Fulham defender adds strength to Nigeria’s defense. The Super Eagles are looking to build on the good vibes from their recent Unity Cup win in London.

Ahead of the game, Chelle said his team is focused on winning. "Now, we have a team and we are preparing to go out there and win. Winning is the mentality that we are trying to create in the team, in the players. We will go for a win on Wednesday," he stated.

Chelle recently led the Super Eagles to Unity Cup success with wins against Zimbabwe and Jamaica. The friendly against Poland is another chance to look at his squad and keep a winning culture alive.

With Bassey now in the mix, Chelle has different options in defense. The former Ajax player can team up with Semi Ajayi in central defense. Igoh Ogbu and Emmanuel Fernandez also add depth.

The coach has strong choices for the full-back positions too. Zaidu Sanusi and Bruno Onyemaechi are set to compete for the left-back spot.

The competition is tough in goal as well. Maduka Okoye, who came to Warsaw on Monday, did well in training. He will compete with Arthur Okonkwo and Francis Uzoho for a starting spot.

Okonkwo has had a great start to his international career, keeping clean sheets in his first two matches during the Unity Cup.

In midfield, captain Wilfred Ndidi will lead a group that includes Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Tochukwu Nnadi, and young player Abdullahi Bewene.

Nigeria’s attack is also looking strong with Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Akor Adams, Rafiu Durosinmi, and Paul Onuachu ready to play.

Onuachu arrived in camp excited after winning the Turkish Super Lig Goal of the Season award. Germany-based winger Philip Otele, who impressed during the Unity Cup, was expected to join on Tuesday.

Like Nigeria, Poland is also using this friendly to test new players. Head coach Jan Urban gave chances to several debutants in their last match against Ukraine and plans to keep experimenting with his team.

Winger Jakub Kamiński is likely to play a big role for Poland, along with other new talents eager to shine.

Wednesday’s match will take place at the 58,000-capacity PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. The kick-off is set for 7:45 p.m. Nigerian time.
