NPFL champions Rangers International have made a deal with Remo Stars to use their stadium in Ikenne as their home ground for the early rounds of the CAF Champions League, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Rangers won the league title on the last day of the 2025/26 season after beating Ikorodu City 2-1. This victory earned them a spot in Africa’s top club competition.

But the Enugu team cannot use their usual home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, known as The Cathedral, because it is currently being renovated.

MikeThePundit says Rangers have chosen to use the Remo Stars’ stadium as their temporary home until the work on their Enugu base is finished.

The stadium, which can hold 5,000 fans, has already hosted international matches and meets the Confederation of African Football’s standards for continental games.

Rangers will play their CAF Champions League home games at the Ikenne stadium. The preliminary rounds will kick off on September 4.

The Flying Antelopes are looking for a better performance in the continental competition after they were knocked out by Angolan side Sagrada Esperança in the second preliminary round last season, losing 3-2 on aggregate.

Rangers and runners-up Rivers United will represent Nigeria in this year’s CAF Champions League. Both teams must first get through the preliminary rounds before they can reach the 16-team group stage.

There could soon be more chances for NPFL clubs if the calls for an expanded format succeed.

Currently, only the NPFL champions and runners-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. An expansion might create more spots for Nigerian clubs and offer them better prize money, broadcast revenue, and high-level competition.

This change could also make the fight for top spots in the NPFL more intense and push clubs to invest more in facilities, coaching, and player development.

For now, Rangers will hope that their temporary home in Ikenne will help them make a deeper run in the continental competition as they aim to turn their local success into a strong CAF Champions League performance.
