Nigeria’s Future Eagles won one match and drew another at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival. They beat Cyprus 2-1 and then drew 1-1 with Pakistan on Monday.
In their first match, the Nigerian team came from behind to win against Cyprus. Wisdom Oche and Timothy Ijach, who came off the bench, scored the goals that led to their comeback victory.
Cyprus scored first in the 12th minute thanks to Georgios Christodoulou. Nigeria quickly responded five minutes later when Oche scored to level the game.
Ijach then scored the winning goal in the 26th minute. This goal secured Nigeria's first win of the tournament.
In their next match, Nigeria could not follow up on their success against Pakistan. They ended the game in a 1-1 draw, despite having chances to win.
The draw meant the Future Eagles missed out on back-to-back wins. They struggled to find the same attacking strength that helped them beat Cyprus.
Nigeria wanted to end their group stage on a high note after their comeback win, but Pakistan proved to be a tough opponent. Both teams shared the points in the end.
These matches have given the Nigerian youngsters important experience against international teams. They are still developing their skills at the youth level.
The FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival is a good chance for young players to gain experience and sharpen their skills against players from other countries.
The Future Eagles aim to build on the good things from their win over Cyprus while fixing the issues they faced in the draw against Pakistan as they move forward in the tournament.
