Former two-weight world champion Billy Joe Saunders believes Anthony Joshua's physical strength and punching accuracy are key factors that could help him when he faces Tyson Fury. He also pointed out that Fury's better boxing skills make the fight hard to predict.
Saunders, who has been friends with Fury for a long time, shared a fair view on the much-anticipated match. He said the winner will depend on which fighter can follow their game plan better on the day of the fight.
"They’ve both got their own attributes. AJ’s stronger, a cleaner puncher. Tyson’s a better boxer, more slick."
"Whoever can put together the best game plan will win, I think," Saunders said in an interview with The Stomping Ground.
The fight does not have a set date or location yet. Promoter Frank Warren mentioned that all parties need to meet before they can finalize those details.
Both fighters have warm-up bouts to get through first. Joshua, who is 36 years old, is set to fight Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 25. This match will be his first since he stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round last December and also his first since losing two close friends in a tragic car crash in Nigeria.
Fury, who is 37, came back from a 16-month break in April. He won against Arslanbek Makhmudov, but many felt it was not his best performance. He aims to fight again in August before meeting Joshua.
Saunders also mentioned that Joshua's training with Oleksandr Usyk, who has beaten Fury, might give him an edge. Usyk's strategy for defeating the "Gypsy King" is likely something Joshua's team will study closely.
