Senator's aide quits before Osun election

A legislative aide to the senator for Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, has stepped down. Babafemi Olusola announced his resignation ahead of the governorship election set for August 15, 2026, in Osun State.

Olusola's resignation is effective immediately. He shared this in a letter dated July 30, 2026, addressed to Fadahunsi, who is part of the All Progressives Congress.

In the letter seen by PUNCH Online on Thursday, Olusola explained that his choice was based on personal beliefs, his conscience, and what he felt was best for the people of Oriade Local Government Area, his home.

"This decision was not made lightly. But after careful thought, I have decided to step down to follow my conscience, my fear of God, and my belief that this is best for the good people of Oriade Local Government, whose welfare must remain my top priority," he wrote.

Olusola thanked the lawmaker for the chance to work under his leadership.

"I am grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the valuable experience I gained while in your office," he said.

His resignation comes at a time when political activities are ramping up ahead of the Osun election.

This adds to a growing list of resignations and changes among political members as parties prepare for the upcoming poll on August 15.

The election is expected to be highly competitive. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is running for re-election with the Accord Party. He will face Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress. Oyebamiji is a former Commissioner for Finance under ex-governor Gboyega Oyetola.
