Nigeria youth international Shakirat Moshood is thrilled after moving to Portuguese club SCU Torreense. She promised to give her best to the club and make her family and country proud.
The talented defender signed a two-year contract with the club, which is set to compete in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. Her move was confirmed on Wednesday and marks an important new chapter in her career as one of Nigeria’s top young players.
After the transfer, the former Flamingos captain called this move a major milestone. She said she intends to repay the trust the club has placed in her.
“I am very happy to be able to give my best to help the team and honour my family and my country,” Moshood said to the club’s media.
This switch is the 18-year-old’s first professional step into European football. She gained attention at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic. There, she scored four goals, finishing as the competition’s third-highest scorer while playing as a versatile attacking midfielder. In 2025, she captained the Flamingos to another quarter-final finish at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, boosting her reputation as one of Africa’s best young talents.
Her quick rise also earned her a nomination for the 2025 CAF Women’s Youth Player of the Year award, where she came in as runner-up. Moshood’s development has reached the Falconets team. After helping Nigeria qualify, she earned a spot in the country’s 28-player provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
She is expected to join her new teammates right away as SCU Torreense ramps up preparations for the new season. The Portuguese club will compete on many fronts in the 2026/27 season, aiming for domestic titles while also representing Portugal in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. This is a great chance for Moshood to continue growing in European football.
