Nigeria youth international Shakirat Moshood is thrilled after making a big move to Portuguese club SCU Torreense. She promises to give her all to the team and make her family and country proud.
The talented defender signed a two-year contract with the club, which is set to play in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. Her move was confirmed on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in the career of one of Nigeria’s top young players.
After hearing the news, the former Flamingos captain said this transfer is a big step for her. She pledged to repay the trust the club has shown in her.
“I am very happy to be able to give my best to help the team and honour my family and my country,” Moshood told the club’s media.
This move is the 18-year-old’s first chance to play professional football in Europe. Moshood first gained attention at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic. She was the third-highest scorer in the tournament, netting four goals while playing as a versatile attacking midfielder. In 2025, she captained the Flamingos to another quarter-final finish at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, further establishing her as one of Africa’s bright young talents.
Her rapid rise also led to a nomination for the 2025 CAF Women’s Youth Player of the Year award, where she ended up as runner-up. Moshood has also made her way into the Falconets team. She played an important role under head coach Moses Aduku during Nigeria’s qualification campaign. As a result, she was included in the country’s 28-player provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
She is set to start training with her new teammates right away as SCU Torreense ramps up preparations for the new season. The Portuguese club will compete in various tournaments during the 2026/27 season. They will aim for local titles and also represent Portugal in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. This is a great opportunity for Moshood to grow her skills on the European stage.
