Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged politicians and all Nigerians to engage in politics without bitterness. This appeal comes as everyone’s eyes are on the 2027 General Election.

Mr Shettima shared this message on Wednesday in Ilorin during the turbaning ceremony of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the Sardauna of the Ilorin Emirate.

He asked those in public positions to serve with “conscience, humility and fear of God” and to have the strength to forgive each other.

“As public office holders, we spend more of our lives outside public offices than we do in public offices. We are in power not because of our pedigree, intellect or ability, but by destiny. What brings us together supersedes what separates us,” he advised.

The Role of Destiny

Emphasizing the importance of destiny, the vice president recalled the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary of 2022. He noted that out of 19 northern governors, only six, including Governor AbdulRazaq, backed President Bola Tinubu’s campaign.

He mentioned that there were rumors at that time saying “Baba (Buhari) Bayan sonshi” which means Baba doesn’t want him (Tinubu) as president.

Despite these challenges, Mr Tinubu became the APC candidate and later the president. Mr Shettima pointed out that he has not targeted anyone negatively. He encouraged politicians to show similar attitudes as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

Mr Shettima described Mr Tinubu as “a good person and leader.” He urged political leaders to follow the president’s example of being generous and understanding.
